The star student

Baji: "Right, so if you can answer the questions on page 34. Any questions, just raise your hand."

A few minutes later….

Miss chic raises her hand.
Baji asks, "Yes?"
Miss Chic: "Baji, how old are you?"

Baji reaching for Miss Chic’s textbook, "Give me your book, I’m sure that question is not written in your textbook."

Miss Chic laughs. "No seriously Baji, How old are you?" The rest of the class join in.  Baji suddenly feels cornered. Baji breaks out in a cold sweat.

Miss Sassy whose elder sister was at Baji’s old school intervenes, “Well…my sister says that Baji is between x and x years old.” If only Miss Sassy would do her homework as accurately as she had researched my age Baji thinks to herself.   Baji then thinks thoughts that are too impolite to put up on this blog .

Miss Chic has some bate now: “So Baji, are you x years”.  She says, starting with the youngest that Miss Sassy has researched.

Baji looks serious and stern. Baji is insulted.  Baji likes to think she looks years younger.  Heck, the students had even asked Baji if she was at Uni.  Which she isn't.

"Okay, so you must be about x years," Miss Chic guesses, taking off 4 years.
Baji looks disgusted, namely at the fact that her designer collagen moisturiser isn’t doing as well as the sales lady said it would. Baji’s ego takes a deep battering.

"Hmmmm… So x years?" Taking off a total of 5 years.
Baji breaks out in a little smile. “Well, could be worse,” she thinks.

"Oh My God, Baji, so you are x years old!!"

Baji breaks into a smile, clearly knowing that she’s leading them on.

“Oh My God! Is that how old she is? She looks like she’s x years old.” Says Miss College student, guessing an age, only a few years off from her own tender teenybopper years.

No guesses for who won the award for star student that week.

The inquisitive student

Miss Chic:  “So Baji. Like, why do we call you Baji?”
“Because I am your teacher,” Baji sternly reminds her, as she obviously seems to have forgotten.
Miss Chic: “Baji means big sister, so are you, like, our big sister?” she grins.
Baji: “I am your teacher. And don’t you forget it.”
“Hmm.” She answers thoughtfully, apparently, blissfully unaware of this until today.

A few moments later, “Baji...can we call you by your first name?”
Baji: No you cannot”
Miss Chic: “Hmmm……..”

A few moments later,  “So Baji…how old are you…?”
“If only you were as interested in the lesson as you are about my life.” Baji retorts back.
“Hmmm…” Miss Chic answers again.

Thankfully, Miss Chic carries on with the rest of her work for the remainder lesson.  But Miss Chic isn’t one to let sleeping dogs lie…

Bashful Baji and the pretty coat

Baji walks in wearing her new coat. She knows it’s too dapper to wear here, but the rest are at the dry cleaners.

Baji walks in to lesson and begins teaching, oblivious that Miss Chic and Miss Cool are more interested in Baji’s coat than they are in the lesson.

Miss Chic: "Baji I love your coat."
Miss Cool coos: "It’s nice"

Baji, uncomfortably adjusting herself, suddenly becomes very bashful.  Suddenly all eyes are transfixed on “The coat”.  Brushing off (pun intended) the compliment, Baji does her best at pretending she hasn’t heard them and continues with the lesson.

But the subject of the lesson today appears to be “the coat”. And as Baji rambles on, the class don’t see her….only her pretty coat.

Dance the day away

Baji arrives early, and sits down. Little miss petal arrives, triumphing, as usual, how she is the first to arrive. Sorry to burst your bubble kiddo, but I was the first to arrive.

Choosing to ignore Baji, little miss petal begins fluttering around like a pretty butterfly, waiting like a pitfall trap for friends to arrive.

Friends arrive

Miss Petal to friends: "Let’s play musical statues!"
Friends: "Okay!"

Baji naively thinks they will just hop or skip around.

Then…Miss Petal begins to dance.

Baji quickly intervenes.

Baji: "Petal? No dancing okay?"
Miss Petal stops. Pauses for a moment. Miss Petal appears deep in thought…

…Then she continues dancing.
